Trumpeter 1/144 F-86F-30-NA Sabre

Trumpiter 1/144 F-86F-30-NA Sabre 1

I think this was the first 1/144 scale model i bought and began work on but being my first model it was really not a good looking attempt so i put it back in its box and its been left in there for about 8 months.

Started work on it again about a month ago and i think ive saved it from being sent straight to the bin. The decals are what really made the model look decent and painting the panel different shades of silver.

Never really seen many 1/144 scale Trumpeter model anywhere but would like to have ago and building another model from them, the level of detail on this model is the same and the Sabre's ive seen in 1/72.

Your painting is good. I like the weathering effect on the plane.

If I'm not wrong, this type of plane was used during Vietnam war. Nice chrome and red Indian nose art.

Nice job, I just bought the same model (and the JASDF F-86-40 version) and your painting just really puts mine to shame. Very nice.

I'm pretty new to models, mind if I ask a question? I was careful with the glue around the cockpit, but on one of them it still fogged up. Is there anything I can do about that?

LEon - Cheers, used Promoddlers wash to wather her up.

Dennis - Just looked her up and it looks like she was buig in the Korean War, can't find anuthing about 'nam. Called the red Indian, "Big Chief"

ExecutiveOtaku - Its a cool model and would be cool to see a JASDF version. Mine first attempt was really bad, should have seen what it was like before i managed to save ot from going starght into the bin.

The frostie clear parts is always a big fear for me. So far ive been using a very little Tamiya extra thin cement, just touching the join between cockpit anf fusalage and hoping that nothing bad happend.

Been told that there are product which can be used to clear parts like Humbrol Clear which ive been unable to find, ive been trying to find something because once ive ruined a canopy it stand out like mad.

I'll have to try looking for clearing agents. I've used brake fluid to strip the paint off of a pewter miniature I wanted to repaint, maybe a soak in that will work(?). It's weird, because I wasn't paying attention when I put the canopy on the USAF one and it turned out fine, but I was really careful with the JASDF one and it got foggy. Thanks for the advice, I'll see what I can do with that canopy.

To avoid the dreaded clouded canopy (thanks to glue vapors) don't to use modeling glue. Instead, use plain old white glue (like Elmer's) on the canopy. White glue doesn't give off vapors like Tamiya cement and thus won't make your canopy cloudy.
Hope this helps.
